Severnside Housing’s Community Chest Fund has granted funding to Shrewsbury Food Bank to deliver Christmas food parcels to those most in need this Christmas.

The Shrewsbury Food Bank, based in Longden Coleham, applied to Severnside’s Community Chest Fund for funding after identifying 50 vulnerable families who they felt needed extra help this Christmas.  Following consultation with the Community Chest Fund panel, which is made up of Severnside customers and staff, their request was unanimously approved.

Karen Williams, Project Leader said “Shrewsbury Food Bank is pleased to be working with Severnside Housing in the provision of special Christmas food parcels for vulnerable families in Shropshire this Christmas. This only enhances the work and partnership that exists throughout the year in helping those who access Shrewsbury Food Bank with Severnside Housing.”

Community Chest Funding applications are invited from any voluntary, community and recreational group working in the Shropshire area whose work will directly benefit Severnside’s residents/communities.

Severnside has worked with the Shrewsbury Food Bank, which is run from St Barnabas Church, for a number of years and often refer residents to the food bank for help.

As part of a further initiative staff at Severnside are also getting involved by donating food items, for the food bank to distribute over the Christmas period.

Mark Simpson from Severnside’s Community Chest Fund said “The request for grant funding from the Shrewsbury Food Bank received unanimous support from our Community Chest Fund panel.  We know that a growing number of our residents use the food bank and without it would find it extremely difficult to manage.  We have worked with the Shrewsbury Food Bank for some years and our staff are always extremely keen to offer their support.”
