£37.8m surplus means more investment in homes and services at Housing Plus Group

In its first full financial year Housing Plus Group has reported a £37.8 million surplus, giving it greater capacity to invest in homes and services for customers.

The not-for-profit housing provider manages 34,000 homes across Staffordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Housing Plus Group uses its financial strength to create places people are proud to call home. Investing in existing homes, building new affordable homes and improving the services customers rely on.

During 2025/26, Housing Plus Group invested £145.6 million in new and existing homes, including £39.3 million maintaining and improving existing properties, and delivering 719 new homes for local people in housing need.

Investment in services is focused on the everyday things customers have said matter to them. Looking ahead this includes developing a repairs service designed around customer demand, with even more repairs completed on the same day, alongside planned investment in existing homes, delivering care and continued support for customers who are finding things tough financially.

During the year, Housing Plus Group’s money advice teams received 4,712 referrals and helped customers achieve £10.7 million in positive financial outcomes, helping people manage household finances and stay secure in their homes.

Wayne Gethings, Group Chief Executive at Housing Plus Group, said:

“Achieving a £37.8 million surplus is a strong result, it’s down to the hard work of our great team, but the important story is what that allows us to do for our customer and communities.

“We don’t make a profit or pay dividends, so our financial strength gives us the capacity to invest in the things that matter most to customers.

“That means improving our repairs service so we can do more jobs on the same day. It means investing in kitchens, bathrooms and other improvements through our planned programme. It means building more affordable homes. And it means being there with practical help when someone is struggling with money.

“Ultimately, that’s why financial strength matters to us. It allows us to do more for our customers and communities and to create places people are proud to call home.”

Richard Nowell, Interim Chief Financial Officer at Housing Plus Group, said:

“These results give us a strong platform for the future.

“Generating a surplus gives us the financial capacity and resilience to keep investing while managing the pressures facing the housing sector.

“We’re focused on making every pound work hard for our customers. That means maintaining a strong financial position while directing investment into existing homes, new affordable housing and the services our customers need for the long term.”

Housing Plus Group aims to build 3,500 additional homes by 2031, while increasing investment in to existing homes and maintaining a resilient business capable of managing financial pressures.
