Housing Plus Group marks National Inclusion Week with commitment to disability inclusion

A social housing provider is marking National Inclusion Week by renewing their commitment to being a Disability Confident employer, strengthening its ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive workplace for colleagues with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

Housing Plus Group (HPG) has signed up to the Disability Confident scheme, in a bid to demonstrate its dedication to continuously learning and taking action to improve how the organisation recruits, retains and develops disabled people.

As part of Housing Plus Group’s commitment to being an equal, diverse and inclusive employer, it has received the Level 2 Disability Confident Employer Certification.

The commitment comes during National Inclusion Week, an annual opportunity to celebrate inclusion and encourage organisations to consider how they can create workplaces where everyone feels valued, respected and able to contribute.

Key areas in which HPG has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to being a Disability Confident employer include providing an accessible recruitment process, where candidates can let us know if they have a disability and access any reasonable adjustments, they may need throughout  the recruitment and interview process.

While, over the last 12 months, HPG has invested in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training, with more than 1,400 colleagues completing EDI training over the past 12 months, including modules on disability awareness and unconscious bias.

Jen McCaskill, People Development Manager at Housing Plus Group, said: “National Inclusion Week is a great opportunity for us to reflect on what inclusion means across our organisation and, most importantly, what we can do to make a positive difference.

“We’re proud to be a Disability Confident employer for many reasons, including that it helps us create a workplace culture where everyone feels valued and included, it improves staff wellbeing, engagement and retention, and helps bring diverse perspectives and as a result, better decision making.

“It’s also advantageous from a recruitment standpoint too as it helps us to recruit and attract staff from the widest possible talent pool.”
