Local Windrush stories celebrated as Housing Plus Group to host exhibition

Windrush: Our Stories, Our Legacy, Our Home shines a light on the experiences of those from the Windrush generation who made their homes locally.

The exhibition, curated by Diane Drummond and Emma Brown, brings together personal stories, photographs and memories to celebrate the people who settled in the area and helped shaped the communities around them.

Housing Plus Group is hosting the exhibition at its offices at Old Park, Telford, as part of Black History Month and is happy to open the doors and share the collection with the wider community.

The exhibition explores the journeys of members of the Windrush generation who came to Britain from the Caribbean in the decades following the Second World War, including those who settled locally, raised families, built careers and businesses and made a lasting contribution to the region.

Diana said: “We are immensely proud and honoured to celebrate the men and women of the Windrush generation, who made their homes here and helped shaped the communities that we know today.

“We hope the exhibition encourages people to share their stories, explore their family histories and continue the conversations about the experiences and contributions of this generation.”

“We are really pleased to be hosting Telford’s Windrush Exhibition, giving our staff and people from across the borough the opportunity to come along, learn more about the Windrush generation and celebrate the contribution they have made to our local area.

“Everyone is welcome, whether you have a personal connection or simply want to find out more. We hope it encourages conversations and for more stories to be shared and remembered for generations to come.”

• The exhibition is open to the public from 10am – 12noon, Monday to Friday, from Monday 5 October until Friday 30 October in the Hub at Housing Plus Group’s Old Park office in Telford.
