From Apprentice to CEO – Wayne’s Journey

At Housing Plus Group, we believe in the power of apprenticeships to shape careers, create opportunities, and strengthen our organisation.

This National Apprenticeship Week, our Group Chief Executive, Wayne Gethings, is sharing his own apprenticeship journey – one that started with a toolbox and a trade and led to the boardroom.

Wayne’s career began as an apprentice plumber, where he learned the hands-on skills and work ethic that would guide him through his career. Reflecting on his experience, Wayne says:

My apprenticeship gave me the skills, confidence, and opportunities to grow, and I know first-hand how powerful these experiences can be. That’s why I’m incredibly proud that over 100 colleagues across HPG are developing their careers through apprenticeship opportunities.

Why Apprenticeships Matter

Having experienced the benefits of apprenticeships first-hand, Wayne is a passionate advocate for investing in apprentices at Housing Plus Group. Today, more than 100 colleagues are building their futures through our apprenticeship programmes in trades, business administration, finance, and leadership.

Apprentices aren’t just part of our organisation – they are the lifeblood of Housing Plus Group. They bring fresh ideas, energy, and talent that will help shape the way we serve our customers and communities.

Investing in the Future

As one of the largest providers of affordable housing in Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Telford & Wrekin, Housing Plus Group is committed to developing careers, growing talent, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
