Meet resident Hazel who has just celebrated turning 105
A resident in one of our retirement living communities has marked an incredible milestone.
Hazel was joined by friends, neighbours and staff at the scheme, in South Staffordshire, to celebrate turning 105 in style.
The much-loved 105-year-old marked the occasion with not one but two parties, with a second birthday bash also taking place at the local community centre.
Hazel was one of many who had to mark milestone occasions during lockdown. In 2020 she turned 100 and instead of the fabulous event everyone had hoped for, her friends and relatives brought the party to her, with socially-distanced fun outside her home.
She also received a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth II and has now received a special message from King Charles III and Queen Camilla to mark her 105th birthday.
When asked how it felt to have received a card from both the late Queen and the new King, birthday girl Hazel joked: “I can’t believe it, I just want a card from Prince William now and I’ll have a full set.
“Not that I want anything to happen to King Charles!”
Retirement living officer Sharon Turner said: “Hazel is our oldest resident and it’s fantastic to be celebrating her turning 105 and it’s lovely to see her and the residents so happy.
“If it’s someone’s birthday we always like to have a get together with tea, cake and maybe even a Baileys!”
Hazel isn’t the only resident who has marked a special birthday at the scheme this year. Her friend Alice also celebrated turning 100 last month.
